This year we participated in 2015 Global Balloon Space Challenge.

Mission goal:

  • Launch a high-altitude balloon to 100,000 ft altitude
  • Capture photo and video footage
  • Measure Gamma and UV radiation levels at different altitude
  • Track and recover payload

Design summary:

  • Helium weather balloon
  • Payload, carrying:
    • Redundant cameras: one DSLR, one point-and-shoot, one HD video
    • Sensor array: Geiger counter, UV, temperature, barometric pressure
    • Tracking: GPS, APRS transmitter, radio beacon
  • Parachute recovery
  • Exempt from FAA rule 101
